Experimental: Cost optimized routing in xRoute 2

This forum deals with any kind of routing computation whether it is simple A:B-routing, calculation of isochrones, simple matrix computation or nearest search.

Experimental: Cost optimized routing in xRoute 2

Post by Bernd Welter »

Hi there,

:!: Update : since v2.21 (dec 2020) this feature is no longer experimental but released... Find more details at

with xRoute Server 2 we will offer a new approach towards routing: this mode will derive the segments "price" by parameters such as
  • costs per kilometer
  • costs per hour
  • consider toll prices
  • and more...
Here are some examples... I just played with the costs per hour and costs per kilometer.
Price per kilometer and Price per hour are expensive. Therefore the router looks for a short/fast track and is willing to pay the 40 $ for the Golden Gate bridge

A medium price level is a good argument to perform a little detour around the Golden Gate bridge (40$): <br />The Bay Bridge toll price is 25 $

The Bay Bridge toll price is 25 $
Now within this scenario the price per kilometer and the price per hour is very cheap which allows us to perform a very large detour to avoid each and every toll object.

This feature is "experimental" so far. Your feedback is welcome!
