"Translation" of NetworkClass into german road types

This forum deals with any kind of routing computation whether it is simple A:B-routing, calculation of isochrones, simple matrix computation or nearest search.

"Translation" of NetworkClass into german road types

Post by ejoerden »

Hi,

I need to "translate" the different NetworkClasses into german road types.

MOTORWAY = Autobahn
HIGHWAY = ?
TRUNK_ROAD = Bundesstraße
COUNTRY_ROAD = Landstraße
CITY_ROAD = Straße innerhalb geschl. Ortschaft
RESIDENTIAL_ROAD = ?

Could you please check and fill in the gaps?

I already forwarded the question to the data department.
Unfortunately there is no trivial matching between the 8 NCs and official german terms and hierarchies.
But as soon as I received a more detailed answer I'll forward it to you.
Best regards

difficult to answer. My colleague Thorsten (member of the data department) answered to me:
NC 0 = MOTORWAY : this is a motorway with controlled access (Autobahn)
NC 1 = HIGHWAY : interstate, Bundesstraße
NC 2 = TRUNKROAD: sometimes also interstate, Fernverkehrsstraße, feeder street
NC 5 = RESIDENTIAL : inner city road with limited access

NC documentation xServer1

The problem we have at this point is that the data providers deliver their own data values
reflecting a hierarchy between those roads but this structure doesn't match 100% with the
model used within the engines / the binary maps. So sometimes two roads of the same
structure (but in 2 different countries) may belong to different NCs. Or two roads
in the same country with sligth differences are put into the same NC because the
differing property isn't part of the matching process.

I know that this is not 100% satisfying but unfortunately I do not have more
details about this.

Just to get some awareness of the data quality, taken from a current EU CITY map.
