We have a customer who plans logistics transports between Asia and continental Europe via sea freight / container ships. Does PTV support the calculation of "logistics distances" for sea transports? And do you also compute the emission for such transports?
Part 1: calculation of sea freight legs ...
Well, as of 2024 PTV does consider regular ferry connections through what we call COMBINED TRANSPORT which includes ferries and piggyback trains. As we don't know the ferry timetables we derive the travel time on a ferry based on the distances between the ports.
Individual sea freight transports (through players such as MSC, COSCO, Hellman, DB Schenker, ...) is not part of the data we gather and consider in our services.
As we do not consider these requested legs in our services we also do not calculate the emission for these means of transport. You could get in touch with players such as BigMile or Waves
There is a component named xIntermodal based on PTV's xServer1 framework. This routing component maintains and uses an underlying database which contains and considers custom combined transports data such as timetables, polygon lines and a simple emission calculation.
