Weather data in the context of xServers

Post by Bernd Welter »

Hi there,

recently I've been asked whether PTV offers weather data in the context of xServers. Some users want to visualize the current or forecasted weather conditions on maps, others want to consider the data in a business process automatically.

Here's what I can offer:
sample xServer.NET + Meteomatics Weather layer
sample xServer.NET + Meteomatics Weather layer
PTV can offer access to the Weather API of METEOMATICS through a specific token.
Check the METEOMATICS API to gather more details about it's technical capabilities, interfaces and coverage.

Weather API
  • Global and regional weather model data, true to coordinates and four-dimensional
  • Models from 1979 and up to 46 days ahead
  • Seasonal forecasts up to 7 months in advance
  • Wind- and solar forecasts for around 1.000 production types
  • Radar- and satellite data, including forecasts
  • Industry-specific weather parameters and data
Furthermore:
  • Native REST API
  • Additional client connector API's (JavaScript, C++, PHP, python and more)
  • Optimized prediction through leading-edge theory
  • Downscaling up to 90m resolution
  • Next to hourly parameters also 3h, 6h, 12h and 24h ranges available
  • Thanks to radar forecasts over 280 updates daily
Technical details:
  • Response formats: CSV, XML, JSON, PNG, HTML-Snippets, NetCDF, GrADS
  • WMS and WFS Interface
  • depending on the package between 1.000 and 1.000.000 accesses per day
  • Response time on average 20 – 30ms
  • Optional deployment of a dedicated server
  • HTTPS supported - HTTP-Basic-Authentification
Integration
  • Excel, Python und R
  • QGIS und ArcGIS
  • ArcGis Pro
  • Matlab
  • Google Earth und Google Maps
Please get in touch with your regular PTV sales counterpart if you wish to get at trial TOKEN.

Best regards,
Bernd

Hi there,

In the context of our PTV Developer EV Routing we use Open Meteo - maybe worth to be checked, too.
They provide a bunch of APIs.
Weather
Weather has an impact on energy consumption in various ways, both positive and negative. Temperature affects the battery performance, especially for smaller vehicles like LCVs and cargo bikes. Wind speed and wind direction affect air drag, especially for vehicles with a big silhouette. The amount of precipitation affects the rolling resistance.
The API provides input parameters to set current weather data at each waypoint. If no weather is specified and the start and arrival time are no more than 14 days in the future, weather will be used according to the forecast provided by Open-Meteo. Otherwise we default to 23°C with a wind speed of 0 km/h for the least impact on the energy consumption.
Best regards,
Bernd
