Determine GPS position of APPLE devices (IPhone/IPad)

Hi there,

a partner asked me how to determine the GPS position of an apple device. Of course there are many aspects of this question:

1. technology versus data security (not part of this thread)
2. "gather the GPS of a remote device" versus "gather the position of a device where I currently run an app developed by myself"
3. (furthermore the question may also apply on other gadgets such as Android© driven phones)

As I am not familiar with Apple's development stack I'd ask the community about some hints / recommendations.
Are there any specific Apple libraries, packages or whatsoever that can be used?
