AJAXMAPS: How to switch between various backends?

This forum deals with any kind of web based client technology, whether it is the well known java script based Ajax servlet or the upcoming approaches such as Leaflet, OpenLayers and so on.

Hello there,

these days a customer asked me whether it is possible (and how) to switch between various xMap backend URLS while using just a single installation of the AJAXMAPS. The solution is based on a combination of server configuration and a single statement in the JavaScript call.
In this example the AJAXMAPS instance is configured to deal with three logical backends. Depending on the map.setBackendServer(..) the user faces another map backend.
