Discontinuation of HERE Map Tile API (not Raster Tile API)

Post by Bernd Welter »

Hi there,

( :!: official DevBlog post :D )

as announced on dec 13th, 2024, the HERE Map Tile API is now deprecated. Users of this API can no longer use the old URLs. This is not due to expired credentials but due to the deactivation of the old API services themselves.

:!: If you are the owner of a HERE Map Tile API reading this article this probably means that you are a PTV customer who got a HERE token through the reseller aproach.

In this case we recommend that you immediately migrate from the no longer supported HERE Map Tile API to the succeeding PTV API within PTV Developer: If you want to

Hi Bernd

You've only mentioned PTV Developer as a migration possibility, is there no equivalent endpoint for the old (example below) where the customer can just change the URL is we provide them with a new HERE API key?

Hello Mo,

that is a very good question! We would have to ask OrderManagement whether they can create HERE reseller based credentials for the latest HERE APIs which is mentioned in the HERE scope. If that works then users could choose between:
  • Replace outdated HERE API version by PTV Developer
  • Replace outdated HERE API version by HERE
But in fact that's what I mentioned in the initial post : migration-required-here-maps-tile-api-shutdown/

Here's more info I gathered today:
Some of the users of the outdated API complained about an error "too many requests" (HTTP-429(.
Turns out that the old HERE api knows some protection mechanism which applies if an APP_ID produces too many requests in a too short period.

If you are running into this, please let us know!
