these days I've been prompted for the state of the German Highway A143 near the city of Halle. Here's how this road is shown in the recent maps:
Map 2024.1T (Tomtom) - https://xmap-eu-n.cloud.ptvgroup.com (captured on 16.10.2024)
Map 2024.2H (HERE) - https://xmap-eu-h.cloud.ptvgroup.com (captured on 16.10.2024)
Though the road is displayed it's section North of the exit Halle Süd is not used in trouting. Honestly this looks confusing at the first glance.
The road is not even displayed.
The following screenshots are based on xLocate 1. I performed a reverse geocoding with (11.859053,51.554694)
Reverse Geocoding on TOMTOM - that's tricky: the reverse geocoding does not distinguish between driveable and not driveable routes. Therefore the A143 is the nearest road and returned.
Reverse Geocoding on HERE - as the A143 is not part of the data at all it is also not considered in the reverse geocoding. The closest hit is the village near by.
As mentioned in previous articles the data is supposed to reflect reality as good as possible but as such a map is used over a period of 6 months there's always a conflict for our data department:
Should we label the road "is open for routing" in this 6 months period? - Then some users would complain about "it is not usable before the opening date!"
Should we label the road "is closed for routing" in this 6 months period? - Then some users would complain about "it is usable after the opening date!"
